Saxon Switzerland - holidays at our place
he guest-house Am Lindenbaum is situated in Lichtenhain, formerly part of the beautiful municipality of Kirnitzschtal now a part of the town of Sebnitz. The attractive location right next to Saxon Switzerland National Park makes this place the ideal base for your holidays in the Elbe sandstone mountains
There are three restaurants, one (indoor) bowling lane, a doctor's practice, a football field and children's play ground in this village. As the name of the municipality already suggests it is only a stone's throw to the wild, romantic Kirnitzschtal (valley of the river Kirnitzsch) with cosy inns by the clear stream. A small attraction is the Lichtenhainer Wasserfall (waterfall) which upon pulling a rope rushes down over a ledge.
Many hiking routes through the remoter parts of the national park start off in Kirnitzschtal. This is the home of the very shy lynx.
Situated on the right hand side of the river Elbe, from Lichtenhain it's not far to the Seidenblumenstadt (silk flower town) Sebnitz (5 km) with shopping possibilities, show rooms of the manufacturing of silk flowers, public swimming pools, leisure baths, border crossing to the Czech Republic and more free time facilities. On this side of the river there are also the castle towns of Hohnstein and Stolpen.
In the other direction on the banks of the river Elbe lies the spa town Bad Schandau with small shops, the Toskanatherme (Toskana spa) and jetties for paddle steamers and river cruise ships.
Further downriver, enthroned high above the river sits the fortress of Königstein with great views in all directions.
Upriver the cliff faces come closer to the water forming a gorge before they give the river more room again on the Czech side.
In the greater vicinity there are the cultural centres of Dresden and Prague.
